Created for Matariki 2026, Te Hekenga is an animated projection exploring migration, movement, and belonging across Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa (the Pacific). Beginning as a constellation, three framed landscapes slowly come to life as native birds and other creatures journey through shifting environments, eventually stepping beyond the boundaries of their frames. Inspired by the seasonal migrations celebrated during Matariki, the work reflects the interconnected journeys of people, animals, and stories across the Pacific, inviting viewers to consider the cycles of travel, return, and renewal.
